Day 6: Wellington “Imperial Russian Stout”

Tasting Notes:

Dark of a starless night. That’s how black and opaque this beer pours. It is a rich looking brew with a frothy, full two fingers of chocolate-milkshake-looking head that laces the glass with each sip. On the nose, aromas of roasted coffee grinds, molasses and Russian Rye bread are dominant, with a distinctive smell of date squares exciting the senses. The flavours are complex and robust. Coffee, molasses and a sweetness of black cherry are all present. The bitterness comes near the end in a flavour quite similar to a Burnt Almond chocolate bar. Upon first sip, the beer fills the entire mouth with huge round flavours, a medium crisp acidity and a smooth finish. This surprisingly easy-drinking beer is technically quite boozy, at 8.0% ABV. But the alcohol is so very well integrated that you would never think it was that high. Dangerous and delicious.
