Day 18: Allgauer Oko Bier “Helles Export”

Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset

Right now all I want is a crisp, clean, golden, refreshing beer. Something easy. Something I can knock back like water and then go to bed. Amongst the random Euro beers in my fridge and all the local ones with way too much flavour and intensity for the moment – I spot the word “Helles” on the label of this beer. Technically, helles is a German word that translates into a light one.  In the beer world, it is used to describe a German style of pale lager.

This is a very straight-forward light beer. Something you’d drink on a beach on a hot day. In fact, it’s pretty much the colour of a hazy stream of sunlight. It’s essentially comparable to any of the macro-lagers (Molson Canadian, Bud, Blue, etc). Just a simple beer. Wouldn’t normally be my preference, but did the trick tonight.

*Update – 10 mins later*

Yeah … now my throat is burning and I’ve just had a sneezing fit and my eyes are bout to pop out of their head. Soooo … definitely having some kind of allergic reaction to one of the hops or something. Fail.
